New State-of-art Printing & Production
System Positions Neff Packaging for Greater Growth
DAYTON, OH (July 14, 2003) ---
Neff Packaging Solutions, a supplier of custom packaging used by
high profile, consumer products companies, has measurably
leveraged its production capability with the investment in new
technology for its Louisville, KY production facility. According
to Robert Neff, President and CEO, this is the culmination of a
corporate initiative leading to a complete upgrade of the
plant’s production capabilities that will approach nearly ten
million dollars upon completion. “This is very important to our
current and future customers,” Neff stated, “because lead times
in the industry are extremely compressed. With this system, not
only is our quality better, but our lead times, from design to
fulfillment, are being compressed from four-to-six weeks down to
around two weeks or less.”
The first step was the
installation of a new press manufactured by Heidelberg of
Heidelberg, Germany. The printing system is the CD 102
Speedmaster and measures 70 feet in length. New prepress
innovations include a computer-to-plate system that reduces make
ready time in bringing pre-approved artwork and graphics
directly to the new press for production. In addition to
printing in six-colors, the system includes auto-feed logistics,
extended drying capabilities and a CD 2000 control system with
automatic ink register providing state-of-the-art color
comparison technology to accommodate the exacting color
standards required by our customers. The improved printing
logistical system enables the company to nearly double its
output of custom packages while reducing production lead-time.
Additionally, it also provides the company with a high degree of
production flexibility in an industry characterized by complex
engineering design and last minute changes.
Also installed were two
additional high-speed, Bobst Sprintera die cutters that have
also been installed and implemented to support the increased
output from the new Heidleberg printing system. These cutters
provide automatic feed and delivery of sheets and are capable of
a cutting rate of twelve thousand sheets an hour. A new,
automated scrap system takes the remnants of sheets from the
cutter and disposes of them has allowed production personnel to
move to more customer focused areas of attention. In addition,
two new Bobst Alpena gluing machines combine at the back end of
the production system to finish additional types of cartons,
including Beers Trays and other more difficult carton designs
and configurations. The new gluers, with pre-feeds and case
packing extensions, provide the company with the ability to
finish and pack at the rate of one hundred fifty thousand
cartons per hour.
Robert Neff also said
installation of the new system will enable the company to better
focus on key areas of competency it has developed over the years
in creating packaging for point-of-purchase and point-of-sales,
on-packs, computer software, beverage gift boxes and retail
packaging for the pharmaceutical and medical product industries.
The fifty-year-old company is headquartered in Dayton, OH where
it designs and fulfills award winning packages and promotional
sampling items. Its customers include firms such as Procter and
Gamble, Bath & Body Works, Johnson and Johnson and others.
